Remembering September 11th

With gratitude and prayer, I think of those who lost their lives, their families and communities on this day 17 years ago.  Thank you to the men and women who served our country not only on that day but in the conflicts and wars that followed.  Our country owes a great debt to those who experienced such sacrifice and loss from those horrific attacks. Someday I would like to visit the 911 Memorial in New York, until then their website broadcasts a live feed of the September 11th Memorial Services and other commemorative events. https://www.911memorial.org.

Legislative Update

Amid a challenging Legislative Session, I remain committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to find common ground and advance policies that will improve the lives of all Iowans. Unfortunately, extreme bills and amendments that do not reflect the priorities of Iowans keep coming. One positive from this past week was the passage of an eminent domain bill, which protects some Iowa landowners (HF 603). The next few weeks the Iowa Legislature shifts gears from mostly policy and moves more to legislation that deals with the overall state budget.

As always, it is an honor to work for you and my gratitude for your support continues.  If you have any comments or suggestions on issues, or need assistance with state government, please contact me by email Kirsten.Running-Marquardt@legis.iowa.gov or by phone at 319.330.9899. I look forward to hearing from you.

Legislative Update

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Up until now, this Legislative Session has been one of extreme legislation mixed with mismanaged budgets and priorities. A bright spot from this week was seeing the autism services insurance coverage bill pass in the Iowa House of Representatives, a bill that I have worked hard on for multiple years. This bill, although not perfect, will provide insurance reimbursement for applied behavioral analysis therapy for many Iowa families who have young children with autism. This bill is now being considered in the Iowa Senate.

I will continue to stand and vote against extreme legislation that attacks hard-working, middle class Iowans. The following bills are a few examples of recently passed harmful legislation that is out of line with the priorities of Iowans: the devastating collective bargaining bill, the preemption bill (which struck the Linn County minimum wage increase) and the workers’ compensation bill, which attacks Iowans injured in the workplace.
